First project-Movement and Motion. And there was the perfect excuse to research my favourite things, Dancing, Morocco and Colour! I wanted to capture the movement of the body in dance and compare it to the movement of Arabic Script. I discovered Louis Greenfield who photographs dancers in motion and is AMAZING. Her photographs almost seem impossible as she captures the dancers mid air, they're great. She inspired me to go mad with the camera! I started taking photos of people dancing, mostly my sister doing yoga and my brother dancing/loosing his mind! I tried to capture every movement so from them i was able to create videos. I love the way Eadweard Muybridge does his sequences of photos to show the motion, I wanted to experiment with the same idea.
Turning the photos into videos i was able to speed up and slow down photos and add music which gave them rhythm. I drew from the body in motion and also from the photos i took. I used the photos and drawings to imitate arabic script, they all have a similar movment and flow.
I moved on to take the shapes of movement from the body in motion. From these i created shapes and hung them from the ceiling. I photographed the shapes as they moved with the wind and also the shadows. I used these again to make videos. As the shapes interacted they looked like they were dancing with each other. I worked alot with the shapes and the arabic script. Also my learning of Arabic looks like it's gunna take a while! Now along with working on the mobiles i've gone back to the quick gesture drawings i did. With these i'm using wire to recreate them in 3D, i want the movements in wire to look like they are just drawings in 3D which is the effect the wire gives. And now it would appear that I am rambling! That ill do donkey. that ill do. The videos and photos will explain better!
