More Experiments!

Wanted to get all the different thicknesses of lines and textures in the piece and different qualities of the materials used. Would like to do a painting of this..
I added more structure to the piece that was attached to the table so that it could stand alone, allowing people to walk around it. Also so that the cable ties were more visible away from the white wall. I experimented more adding colour fabric and coloured cable ties..

I wanted it to look unstable and a a bit makeshift reflecting the ideas of the scaffolding and the slums i had been looking at in my print elective.
Below I was just experimenting with bamboo and taking elements of structure, connecting them and hanging them from the ceiling so there was movement within the piece.

I moved on to using found objects, I took two refrigerator baskets, one i used to experiment with the inside space and the other the outside.

a quick unedited video of the shadows as one of the baskets is moving..

Sculpture Elective :)

Experiment time! To start off I took the idea of connecting objects and spaces. I wanted to take materials likes cable ties that we use to connect things and make them apart of the sculpture. Below are few quick ideas i started with. Attaching steel poles and bamboo to the legs of the table I started connecting them using cling film, fabric and cable ties. To the right is just a quick piece where i was playing with connecting the ceiling to the floor with 3 disks (Sink strainers!) with wire which would reflect with light.

This all led to think more simply about connecting spaces on a bigger scale so i started connecting spaces in the college. I used the chord to create angles connecting to the floor and the ceiling which then left the room and ventured down the hallway! I wanted to see would curiosity and build and would people follow the chord to see where it went, connecting people to my space. People were curious enough to follow so that was ineresting.

.....and then...i wanted to connect the college to the city. I like the idea of connecting spaces in our city and connecting people that interact with city all the time. So in the early hours of a thursday morning i went out into the city with Meg! I wanted to use bright colours to connect our streets so i wrapped bands of coloured wool around poles, railings etc.! I wanted to cause peoples eyes to follow these bands of colour as the walked down the street and wonder what it was all for! and they did!
