Getting Transparency, layers, tension and colour in print!

These are a couple of my prints. Pretty happy with these, was trying to get tension and depth in them. Was great to experiment alot with colour aswell cus it was a big part of the project since the start but there was little of it going on! Think you can feel the tension in the scretch with the layering of the black marks over the streched shapes of colour. Love print cus you can really get the depth with layering the colours and im all about that transparency ink! Seeing as transparency is a big part of the concept, with layering i was really able to get that transparency and strain and the same time.
 Print pieces with installation pieces.

More Ceramics!

These are all photos before anythings been fired. I've been trying to manipulate clay so that it appears delicate and fragile. I did this by making the edges paper thin. I found that the first clay pieces i did were too heave they looked heavy which was the opposite to the transparent and fragile feeling i wanted. This works much better.

These are pieces that are a mixture of throwing on the wheel and slabs that i thined. Loved throwing on the wheel cus the lines really give a feel of movement. Never did it before so was pretty hillarious, some mistakes were good though! The pieces have no base in the centre, the idea is that it is an open space for everything-a transparent space that everything can pass through. When were at our centre, nothing really phases us, we're transparent. Everything happens around our centre, our paths of of movement, our layers of experience, so i moved sheets of clay around the piece, some are pierced to allow light through.

Enjoying the Journey and accepting the unknown!

Creating Forms with Ceramics!

Started using clay to see if I could capture the twists and flow of our free mevements. These are pictures of some of the pieces, i was moving them around using them as maquettes to see how they could work, and then imagining them on a huge scale! hence the dodgy looking figures i've scribbled in. Because all my pieces are about the movement in the body and between the mind and the body it is important that people can interact with them so if i had lots of money these would be a huge scale, and people could experience the different spaces created by the forms. Also wouldnt mind trying them out in huge sheets of metal like Richard Serra's Work..some day:D

Drawing with Bamboo....

Because I've been looking alot at the line and gesture lines in our movement I wanted to contrast this free movement of line with the stretched movements in tension in the installation. I want it to look as if the Bamboo is almost like quitck gesture sketches.

New Installation....will it snap?!

Started a new installation in studio. Wanted to get more of a stretch with the material than in the sculpture pieces. I attached heavy wire to tables and pipes and then tied it tight so that i could stretch the tights from it as much as possible. I want it to look as if it could snap any minute, Im interested in how fragile movement can be, how delicate the movements between our brain and our body are. How the movement of chemicals in our brain control the movments in our body. Things like our mental health and also our physical health, how it is all interlinked and how movement in both could be effected in one second and change everything. Movements we take for granted. I stretched the wire through the space at different angles so that the tights would create different forms as they were stretched through the space and as they interacted with each other. Hope that wasnt too much rambling!!

Getting different tones in the shadows as they over lap and in the material-more transparent where it is stretched alot.
Goes from transparent to more opaque especially when the material overlaps-like how thats working...

Also wanted to make the scale bigger so if you take them out of context they could be huge-architectural. Bit similar to tensile structures in Architectre.

Mixing Sounds I recorded with music-different mood to other videos

These videos have a lighter feel, like the end of a storm. I've taken sections of 2 songs by Tracy Chapman, slowed them down and mixed them with sounds I recorded. In these I'm liking how the changing of light has worked with the sound of the wind and the water. More of a uplifting feeling to these, not as dark and creepy as the previous videos :D:D

Creating my own Sounds.....

I loved doing the video to the sounds of Michael Jackson but I wanted to create my own sounds and my own mood for the videos. Nothing too original to using Thriller! It was time to move on! Over the weekend I recorded alot of different sounds. Breath, Double Bass, Wind, Fire, Gravel and Waterfalls!! I started with the breath. I like to idea of using the breath as it is our breath that moves us. In dance and yoga we try and move with the breath. If we move with our breath our movement flows. Freeing our head and our body! In the video below I have mixed the sound of the Double Bass. Eleanor is actually playing a section of Thriller:) I love the deep sound of of the Double Bass, when the bow moves over the strings in a certain way it sounds like the breath. In this video I have mixed the Double Bass with recordings of the wind and me walking on twigs. All the sounds mixed together give a feeling of movement and a dark mood. If I could it would all be part of an installation where you are interacting with the sculptures, the video is projected onto the walls and you are surrounded by the sounds.....not quite yet though!

In the next video, I have recorded the sound of water and waterfalls as I walked along a stream, I have mixed sounds of the double bass just playing long deep notes and getting different effects with it. Tension is added in parts when the bass is plucked and the rhythm changes.

Love mxing sound, video, and 3D. Hope to do alot more with the music Art Collaboration idea. Looks like i'm going in the direction of installations..
In the video below, i've mixed voice with a sounds like a clock ticking, the sound of footsteps on gravel, wind and water. Eleanor is just singing 2 lines but each time they are repeated im slowing down the sounds and the video, yip i know it gives a pretty creepy feel to the video!

New Materials.....

For the sculpture pieces themselves, I wanted to experiment with other materials that I could stretch over the wire. I like the way the tights as a material stretch and created form so I wanted something similar. I made sheets of latex on glass. I wanted a skin like effect, that the stretch of the latex would imitate the stretches in the body as it moves. Below is an attempt to stretch them into forms over wire.

I added wax pigment to one of the sheets, It gives the effect of spices that i wanted. The darker colour sheet, I added acrylic paint to experiment with getting a block colour. I would like to work more with latex and getting surface effects.
